Transforming Small Spaces with Minimal Remodeling

Best Bathroom Remodel Designer Portland, Oregon

I don’t know about you, but looking around after the tree comes down and all the holiday decor is packed up, there’s always something I want to change in the fresh new months of the New Year. Even if it’s just the arrangement of photos, or replacing the old throw blankets with new ones, I feel like change is needed.

And if there are rooms in your home that you’ve been planning to remodel for ages, I’m sure that feeling is really strong as we enter into a new season. Welcoming family and friends into your home that’s not quite finished, that just needs those last few changes, can mysteriously add another level of stress to hosting. And, if you’re like most people, you find yourself saying “next year” a little more often than you should.

So here’s my new year interior design advice:

REALLY make those changes this year!

And start small; no need to go too crazy. Small changes make a big difference and can add that finishing touch to a new (or new-to-you) home that makes it feel like… well, home!

Transforming Small Spaces with Minimal Remodeling

The word remodeling brings thoughts of demolished walls and torn up floors to mind. But remodeling comes in all shapes and sizes, and when it comes to small rooms like powder rooms, laundry rooms, and even hallways and entryways, remodeling can be as sweetly simple as adding a new mirror, refreshing the wallpaper, adding a fresh coat of paint, getting new storage, or utilizing the huge variety of adorable tile that’s out there.

Let Me Show You...

In a lot of my powder room projects, I tend to use a lot of decorative mirrors. Mirrors come in usual and unusual shapes and can have wide, thin, decorative, minimalist, vintage, leather, or glitzy frames that add a pop of detail to pull the room’s aesthetic together. You can get so creative with mirrors in smaller rooms, all with the added bonus of creating an optical illusion that makes the room feel bigger! Win win!

Added Wallpaper, Lighting and New Decorative Mirror Make This Niche Luxurious

In the same houses, to match the mirrors and complete the look, I also tend to use decorative tile in the laundry rooms or primary showers. Since the room is smaller, decorative tile is a good way to pack a lot of character into a small amount of surface area. Spend a little more on labor to arrange the tiles in creative patterns, purchase higher end tile pieces, or simply splurge on the unique and fun selections. Since the room is generally so small, you can treat yourself to the fun stuff; because you don’t need huge swaths of it to cover a lot of ground, it stays affordable.

This is Where I Come In - Customized Interior Design Service...

My customized interior design service can be used to remodel or refresh any room! A lot of my surface selection work is in new builds, but a decent number of my projects focus on small rooms that need finishing touches and surface selections that pull the room together in order to create personality. If it still seems intimidating to work with a designer, I get it!

However, it doesn't mean we are all intimidating, or pushing our own style and only in the expensive ways...

Working with Lemontine Design - My Process...

If you are wondering how I work, here’s my general process to put your mind at ease:

Step 1: With a questionnaire, a lot of inspiring discussions, and a 1-2 hour on-site consultation, we get to know your personality, your space, and what your desires and needs are in that space.

Step 2: We narrow down the story into chapters so we prioritize what your design needs are, and provide you with a proposal for the project. That way, you know exactly what we will focus on and what that looks like ahead of time.

Step 3: Design Time: This is where we get to work creating and designing concepts, palettes and more! It's really where the magic happens.

Step 4: We finalize your design, make the orders, and pop the champagne with final installs!

This is all done with the ultimate goal of making your home a place where you’re comfortable, where your life is made easy, and where you can invite guests over, stress-free, knowing every part of your home is as ready for the party as you are!

Of course, this isn't the only type of service I offer. Reach out to me if you are ready to make some changes and we can discuss your project goals. Happy New Year!
